Abraham-Louis Breguet was born in 1747 in Neuchatel, Switzerland He founded his first shop in 1775 on the Ile de la Cité in Paris, providing his timepieces to such historical figures as Louis XVI, Marie-Antoinette and Napoleon I. He was known to all the European courts, as well as being the watchmaker of reference for diplomatic, scientific, military and financial elites. The firm remained in the hands of the Breguet family until the workshop foreman, Edward Brown took control. For the next 100 years, the firm passed down through three generations of his family. In the 1970s, watch production was moved entirely to the Joux Valley of Switzerland. In 1987, the firm was purchased by Investcorp. It is located in L'Abbaye, Switzerland.The firm has been acquired by the Swatch Group.
