Born in 1964, Wuhan, China, Zeng graduated from The Hebei Academy of Fine Arts with a major in oil painting in 1991. Zeng has an extensive exhibition history which includes: Hanart TZ Gallery, Hong Kong, China (1993); The First Critic’s Pick Exhibition, China Fine Arts Museum, Beijing, China (1994), The Post-1979 Chinese Avant-garde Art Exhibition at the St. Monica Art Center, Barcelona, Spain (1995) and the China Exhibition, Bonn Art Museum, Germany (1996). In 1998 a solo exhibition, Zeng Fanzhi Works from 1993-1998, was held at ShangART Gallery. This exhibition then traveled to CIFA Gallery, Beijing. His works participated in a group of museum exhibitions called Twenty Years of Chinese Contemporary Painting at the National Art Museum, Beijing/ Shanghai Art Museum/ Guangzhou Art Museum/ Northern Art Museum, Chengdu. In 2002, Zeng was invited to the first Guangzhou Triennial and in the same year, exhibited his works in Korea, Paris and Shanghai. In 2004 Zeng Fanzhi had a solo exhibition SCAPES: The Paintings of Zeng Fanzhi 1989-2004 at the He Xianging Art Museum, Shenzhen, China. During this year, his works were also shown at the Exhibition of Nominated for Art Documentation, Art Gallery of Hubei Academy of Art, China and Face to Face- Six Artists and One Era, Robert & Li Art Gallery, Taiwan. Between 2005 and 2006 his works were shown in over 10 exhibitions. He has continued to actively participate in exhibitions throughout China, Korea and Europe, most notably in Art Basel, Miami Beach in 2006 and 2007. In 2007 a retrospective of his works was held at Singapore Art Museum and solo shows were held in: Paris, France/ Seoul, Korea/ Shanghai, China. His recent exhibitions include: Tai Ping You Xiang-Zeng Fanzhi Solo Exhibition, ShangART, Beijing, China (2008); Writing on the Wall, Chinese New Realism and Avant-garde in the Eighties and Nineties, Groninger Museum, Groninger, The Netherlands (2008) and China New Vision, Chinese Contemporary Art Collections from Shanghai Art Museum, The Centre for Modern and Contemporary Art, La Spezia, Italy (2008). Zeng is also scheduled to take part in several exhibitions in 2009 such as: Lovely Blossoms and Full moon-YUZ Collection of Chinese Contemporary Art, YUZ Museum, Jakarta, Indonesia and Narcissus looks for Echo-Zeng Fanzhi Suzhou Exhibition, Suzhou Museum, Jiangsu province, China.
