Learn about HERMANN HAUSER artist, their past and upcoming works offered at auction at Christie's

German born, Hermann Hauser Sr. (1882-1952) is considered by many the finest non-Spanish luthier to create guitars in the Spanish tradition. Hauser’s inspiration into this style of guitar making is credited to his association with Andrés Segovia. From their very first encounter, Segovia saw great potential in the German maker and encouraged him to follow in the method of Manuel Ramirez and Antonio de Torres. Hauser proved himself a worthy pupil, and produced guitars rivaling his Spanish influences. Segovia was particularly taken with Hauser’s new technique, famously playing on a number of guitars gifted to him by the maker. Today, Hauser is credited for innovations in top and body construction and his guitars are prized for their clear, rich sound with great sustain.
