Jose Hess was born in Germany and fled with his family to Colombia, South America before Nazi rule took hold. As a young man in Colombia, he was apprenticed to a goldsmith and quickly mastered the craft of making jewellery. Hess arrived in New York in 1951 and worked a series of jobs in the jewellery industry. After two years in the US military, Hess began making models and handmade pieces for David Webb. Eventually, Hess realized his dream of designing and manufacturing his own original creations. Currently located in Soho, New York, Jose Hess has received numerous awards including the De Beers Diamonds International Award.
