Born in Kolkata, Probir Gupta studied art at the Government College of Arts & Crafts, in Kolkata (1976-1981). He furthered his education at the Ecole Nationale Superieure Des Beaux Arts in Paris (1982-1987). Since 1984, Gupta has had over sixteen solo exhibitions in Paris, Delhi, and Kolkata. His most recent solo shows include exhibitions at Bodhi Art, New York (2007); Found Objects, Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata and Anant Art Gallery, New Delhi (2007); Bose Pacia Gallery, Kolkata (2007); and Nature Morte, New Delhi (2005). Gupta has participated in several and important group exhibitions, most recently, Art For The World, Hanger Bicoca, Milano (2007); FIAC, Louvre, Paris Bose Pacia and Nature Morte (2007); and prior to that Borsos Mikolos Museum, Gyor, Hungary (2002). The artist lives and works in New Delhi, India.
