Born in 1959 in Aomori Prefecture in Japan, Yoshitomo Nara received his B.F.A. from the Aichi Prefectural University of Art in 1985 and his M.F.A. from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Aichi Prefectural University of Fine Arts and Music in 1987. In 1995 he received the Award for Artist from Nagoya City.
