Theodore Horovitz (1917 – 1996). Originally from Romania, the Horovitz family settled in Alexandria. In 1934, at the age of seventeen, Theodore (Teddy) began working for his father's jewellery shop. Later he set up his own atelier on the premises and started to create jewels for the cities noblity and royalty, including the Queen's wedding crown. In 1956, he and his family moved to Geneva and he established his own business in 1960. His high quality jewels rivaled those of the finest Parisian workshops. His interests were not limited to jewellery but spanned the gamut of history, art, silver, watchmaking, poetry and books. His reknowned collection of books was auctioned at Christie's Geneva in November 1997.
