Learn about AMATI FAMILY artist, their past and upcoming works offered at auction at Christie's

Antonio (c.1540-1626) and Girolamo Amati (c. 1561-1630) were the oldest sons of Andrea Amati, the patriarch of the prolific family of Cremonese violin makers. Within the walls of their shop, Antonio and Girolamo helped to establish a lineage of accomplished violin makers including Nicolò who worked alongside his father, uncle and grandfather.

The brothers, who embraced the Renaissance geometry, experimented with varying outlines and arching producing violins which emphasized clean and graceful outline.  The clear and balance tonal quality make them admired among both collectors and musicians.
